On September 27, Queen’s University Faculty of Health Sciences (QHS), based in Kingston, Canada, hosted a webinar titled: “The future of healthcare in Canada: Solutions to the current crisis.”
The panel was moderated by Professor of Medicine Chris Simpson, Queen’s Health Sciences Dean Jane Philpott, Vice-Dean Erna Snelgrove-Clarke, and Vice-Dean Stephanie Nixon. The event was attended by more than 340 people.
Health education, research, and patient care were discussed by panelists as well as QHS’ future plans for improving the healthcare industry. Participants discussed policy changes, practitioner burnout, seats in healthcare professional education institutions, and how to provide patient-centric, culturally-safe care. Panelists discussed the future of healthcare as it shifts from a physician-centric approach to a more collaborative model, where practitioners from different disciplines work together to help patients.
The QHS has a 25-year plan to improve the education model for its faculty in order to improve healthcare practitioner education and working conditions.
